 Non-Duplicating Key Control Systems

These systems are great when you want to maintain control on how many people have copies of keys. These keys cannot be copied by Canadian Tire or other general key cutting companies.

As a general rule, the locksmith who installed your key control system is the only locksmith that should be cutting the keys. Key control systems are really common in commercial properties.

These types of locks are often used for:

  • Entryway doors for apartment buildings and multi-unit residential buildings

  • Storage rooms

  • Security offices

  • Office door

A-1 can order, cut and install key control systems for you!!

We order our locks from Assa Abloy - a well known lock supplier that is known for its high security locks.

Pick Proof Locks

While, technically, any lock could be picked, there are types of locks that are built to be near impossible - or at least extremely difficult - to pick. For example, magnetic locks are not very common so very few burglars know how to pick them.

There are also pick-resistant locks that are built with extra tumblers so that only the actual key cut for this specific lock can open it.

If you are looking for that little extra added security, let us know and we can order your lock, cut the keys and install it for you.

Drill Resistant Locks

Drill resistant locks are built with super strong pins that push back on drills, making it hard to break into the lock this way. These locks also usually have steel cylinders, which are pretty much impossible to drill into.

Drill resistant locks are great for

  • Front doors

  • Office buildings

  • Security rooms

  • Offices of businesses

  • Anywhere where documents or money would be stored

  • Other high security door.

Mechanical locks

Mechanical locks are door locks that don’t use keys or batteries. They are the push button locks that require a code to unlock and turn the deadbolt.

The benefit of mechanical locks:

  • you don’t need to change batteries

  • No need to remember keys

  • Access code can be changed when needed

  • More affordable than electric locks

Mechanical locks are typical on:

  • Garage doors

  • Back offices

  • Janitor closets

  • Storage closets

  • Side entryways

Electric Keypad Locks

Keypad locks have become way more popular over the past few years. They’re more common than mechanical locks on front doors and residential buildings because they aren’t as bulky. You do need to change batteries on an electric keypad lock.

A-1 recommends the 9 volt battery electric padlocks over the AA battery locks. The 9 volt lasts longer and wont die on you.  That is the one downside of the electric lock; if the battery dies, you need to call a locksmith to open the door for you.

Electric keypad locks are great high security front locks because you don’t need a key, and you can’t get in unless you know the code.

There are a lot of different styles though so look online for visit a hardware store to pick the best one for you.

How much does it cost to change a lock on a security door?

A security door can have any kind of lock. Depending on the kind of lock, if it’s a handle lock combo, or if it’s a mechanical or keypad lock can all impact the price. You can purchase locks from a hardware store or get a professional locksmith to order you one for you.

Whether you buy the lock yourself or get a locksmith to order one for you, you should still get a professional to install and set it up for you. Especially on a security door, you want the lock to be installed properly.
