How to Choose a Locksmith

Safety and security is everything. When protecting your home, family, loved ones and possessions, it can be scary to think that all that stands in the way is a solid board of wood and something as seemingly simple as a lock. Picking a locksmith is more than choosing a random number on google. Here are four tips on how to choose a locksmith.

1) Look For Experience

Experience is everything with locksmiths. Learning the ins and outs of locks can be done on YouTube, sure, but it takes true experience to understand how different doors and keys work together, to know off the top of your head what brands can be trusted and what materials you should choose. Especially in Kitchener-Waterloo there are many locksmiths with decades of experience. Of course, it’s important to allow new professionals to grow their business but even in that case, look for locksmiths that are working with reputable and experienced trainers.

2) How Do They Value Security?

The person looking to get the job quickest and get home isn’t a positive thing when hiring a locksmith. Taking the time to do it right the first time around can make a big difference when it comes to safety. Many locksmiths, like me, have their own families, children and parents they worry about every day. When I’m on a service call I can’t help but think about how each customer is someone’s sister, brother, daughter, mother, father or grandparent. To me, security is everything and you should expect the same from any locksmith you hire.

3) Flexibility and Availability of a Locksmith

Locks don’t break on a schedule. Flexibility and availability should go hand in hand with any locksmith you hire. That’s also why, for my own business, i believe that my remote-service approach is best. With my work truck I am able to come to any customer anywhere in Waterloo Region. When you’re looking to hire a locksmith look for one that understands flexibility is needed and is open to building that type of relationship with you. That way you never have to feel guilty when your lock breaks on a Saturday morning or - knock on wood - Christmas day.

Choosing a locksmith can be stressful. Sure, if you’re getting a single key cut it may not be a big deal. But when you start to buy a home, have children or grow your business, having a relationship with a locksmith you can trust is so important.

If you’re looking for a go-to locksmith that values security, has 30+ years experience and understands the flexibility that comes with the job, reach out to me. I’m a father of three, a local-business and one-man-show that has made a living keeping Waterloo Region residents safe. It’s something I’m proud to be doing. It would be an honor to be your locksmith.
